March Madness
February seems so far away, yet we are ONLY in the second week of March. To recap:
Galentine’s Day at Reaver was a blast! The amount of people that showed up at the event, especially for the 2nd floor bunch (myself, GingerSweets, LizzieBCrafts & Sylenegems), was overwhelming. If you came by that day, Thank you! We sold out of coldbrew literally at the last minute of the event. That day being Galentines was a vibe in its own right!
We joined and celebrated the 3rd year anniversary of our friends from The Pink Box in Suffolk and what a turn out! Both Peanut City Candle Co. and Project Seed Coffee joined the celebration, and between these 3 women-owned businesses, it was a home run that day! Thank you all for showing up and always supporting local small businesses.
Coffeefest 2023
2019 was when I first started attending Coffeefest New York. I wasn’t a business owner just yet, but had been wanting to open a coffee shop. I remember registering the first year under the concept company, Seed Coffee House. I went there wide-eyed, VERY caffeinated, and ready to absorb ALL I could from different educational classes and coffee companies. This is also the place where I met my VA-based roaster, Cafe Kreyol.
“Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.”
Fast forward to 2023 and Project Seed Coffee is a legit business with a commercial kitchen and VDACS license. Returning to this festival is like a spiritual retreat (only for coffee). It feels like home: seeing familiar faces and meeting new ones, and learning new things while revisiting what I’ve already understood. One of the sessions I attended was Trends in the Business of Coffee. The first trend was – you guessed it – Cold Coffee is King. That made me smile, as you know, I am all about that life. Coffee snobs (I was one of them at one point) think that cold coffee is not coffee. Well, snobs can be snobs all they want but the data indicates that Cold Coffee is the moment and I’m here for it! I remember a verse in the bible where it says “Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” Okay, I may be over spiritualizing coffee (I told you, retreat) but this is your reminder to not let anyone look down on you because you drink cold coffee! Okay, rant over.
Coffeefest is always an opportunity to sample A LOT of coffee, new drink trends, and even food items. Being with like-minded individuals who are faced with various challenges in the coffee world makes my heart even more passionate about this business! 2023 will be a new season for Project Seed Coffee and I can’t wait to unravel it with you all!

What is SPARC?
SPARC was created in November of 2019. SPARC is an acronym for Support - Propel - Achieve - Run - Club. SPARC helps to educate the community on the health benefits of running, the beauty of diversity, and the importance of giving back locally and across the global community. We are here to support one another and to propel each other forward to achieve our mental, spiritual, and physical goals through the sport of running.
Why did you start SPARC?
SPARC started as an instagram page (Anti Social Social Run Club). The IG Page was created to help motivate others and to get people out and running. We later decided to meet as a group to run in person. Meeting in person helped to develop deeper relationships between us and we bonded over things outside of running.
What sets your run club from other run clubs?
SPARC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We decided to become a 501(c)(3) because as leaders we felt that we could use the platform of our club and running, to help spur others to give and help not only our local community, but the global community. We also strive to help highlight the importance of diversity in the running space. We also have a podcast that talks on these subjects to help spread awareness.
What does the future look like for SPARC?
In the immediate future, we are holding an inaugural 5K to honor Dr. Albert Lin and bring awareness to Brain Cancer in May. For the long term, we hope to grow our relationship with the community and continue to speak for those who don't have a voice.
